I would guess that your must have recently started running or suddenly increased your mileage.

First- ice the area down after your run.

Second- stay off the hard surfaces. Concrete is a killer.

Third- How old are your shoes? Be nice to your poor legs and replace them about every 400 miles.

I would do some nonimpact workouts, eliptical trainer, and let your leg heal. When you able to bounce on the sore leg and it doesn't hurt, start running again. Take it easy and slowly increase you mileage.

RAN CROSS BOTH IN HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE.

THIS SOUNDS STUPID BUT RUN BACKWARDS FOR THE DISTANCE OF ABOUT 440, ONCE AROUND A TRACK.

IT'S WHAT WE DID, AND SEEMED TO HELP/WORK.

IT STRETCHES OUT YOUR LIG AND MUSCLES THE OPP WAY, YOU CAN FEEL IT.

GOOD LUCK

AND STAY OF CONCRETE IF POSSIBLE

Great advice, guys. I would add to stretch your calves before and after every workout. The simplest way is to put the balls of both feet on a step or curb, then alternate hanging each heel down for a count of 15. A good stretch even if you don't have the splints. I hope they go away soon.

And I third the "stay off of concrete" advice. Run on grass if you can. It is hard work, but it actually strengthens your ankles & legs as your muscles counterbalance depressions, holes, & varying terrain.
